Math and Science Center may move to downtown Battle Creek

One of the keys to redevelopment of downtown Battle Creek has the support it needs to becoming a reality.

The Battle Creek Educators' Task Force, a group that includes leaders from Battle Creek school districts and colleges, has unanimously endorsed the center's move from Springfield to downtown Battle Creek, reports the Battle Creek Enquirer.

Excerpt:

Pennfield Schools Superintendent Ben Laser, who chairs the task force, said ... the downtown site would allow for easier collaboration with food industry workers at downtown businesses like Kellogg Co. and give more students the chance to take advantage of the Math and Science Center's programs.

He said Pennfield Schools must wait-list some students wanting to enroll at the center.

"The thought is that by moving downtown, hopefully they'll be able to expand the opportunities for kids to attend the center," Laser said. "Any time we can expand the educational opportunities for kids, that's always a plus."
